Nettle fiber
Presentation
material
Nettle fibers, native to the Himalayan ranges of Nepal and India, have been used to make clothing and ropes for several millennia and more recently for the military of Napoleon III’s armies in 1870.
Biobject has partnered with the house of ERIC BOEHM to offer its clients hand-knotted rugs made from nettle fiber.
The Eric BOEHM brand is a French house located in Colmar, in the heart of Alsace, a historic cradle of the textile industry. The Velvet Mosaics and all the creations are original works.
Eric Boehm creates rugs based on the expertise and skills developed by workshops in Nepal, specializing in the knotted stitch. The House has chosen to offer renewable plant-based natural materials with very low water and carbon environmental impact. The development and use of plant-based dyes are also among the brand’s priorities.
Because without the women and men who work to enhance these materials, there would be no Velvet Mosaics, the E.BOEHM brand, through a partnership with a fair-trade label, supports social and human approaches, gender equality, takes into account working conditions, education and training, and also ensures the preservation and continuation—against mass and low-cost production—of the heritage of craftsmanship excellence.
